I have redesigned and activated a replacement website for Photo Images of Africa. The new website also covers all aspects of wildlife and nature photography with an emphasis on image portfolios, blogs and articles of photographic interest.
The new site is https://www.jbnaturephotography.com
Click on this link and am sure you will enjoy the new site at least as much as this one.
Canon released the EOS 1DX Mark III recently. Given that it is a”hybrid” in many ways, with live view shooting akin to using a mirrorless camera, the set up is complex. I always use custom functions, so in addition to three custom setup versions (C1, C2, C3), you also need settings for Viewfinder shooting, Live View shooting and Movies (video) especially that the latter two can use face/eye recognition in continuous mode. This means there are nine groups of settings.
I have included a link below to a table that I believe would serve many nature photographers as a guide. The three custom modes are for capturing Landscape images (C1), General Nature/Wildlife (C2) and Action Photography (C3). Each of these Custom Setups include settings for Viewfinder shooting, Live View shooting and Video capture.
Settings are very much a personal thing, depending on your own requirements, style of shooting and what you intend to photograph. This is an attempt to summarise my preferences and it could serve as a good starting point when setting up your new 1DX Mark III.
Included is my customisation of the various buttons and dials and also the use of “My Menu” options. The latter helps a lot in making changes while shooting without having to drill down into the various menus. Settings like AF method and Shutter mode are prime examples. The 1DX3 gives three options for Shutter mode – Mechanical, Electronic 1st curtain and Electronic. With the latter setting and in Live View, you can obtain 20 shots/second and without a shutter sound.
The original settings were done in Numbers on a Mac and then converted to an Excel file. Both versions are linked below.

If you click on the link it will take you to another page where you again click on the file name and it will download the respective file.
